Being a Mom today!
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am sure glad God gave me the mother he did. She was exactly what I needed, in this fast paced results oriented world, to show me the more important things. 2 Timothy 1:5 I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. My Mother filled me with sayings and stories (Biblical Principles) of what her mother (Mama Speights) had taught her. I always enjoy remembering they way mom would use them, the way she would say them. As not to point a finger at me, but as to… “think out loud”. One principle that I remember most readily is… Kindness is to do and say the kindest things in the kindest way. As the 5th of 7 children, you can imagine the spats and sibling rivalry that must of taken place in our very competitive home. Mom would always remind us of the importance of kindness. She taught me that kindness will cost me nothing but my pride. God instructed the adults of Israel to practice and teach their children the principles He had taught them. Deuteronomy 11:18-25 18 “So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 19 Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. 20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 so that as long as the sky remains above the earth, you and your children may flourish in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors. 22 “Be careful to obey all these commands I am giving you. Show love to the LORD your God by walking in his ways and holding tightly to him. 23 Then the LORD will drive out all the nations ahead of you, though they are much greater and stronger than you, and you will take over their land. 24 Wherever you set foot, that land will be yours. Your frontiers will stretch from the wilderness in the south to Lebanon in the north, and from the Euphrates River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. 25 No one will be able to stand against you, for the LORD your God will cause the people to fear and dread you, as he promised, wherever you go in the whole land. By giving us instruction in Deuteronomy, and then using Lois and Eunice as our examples of the instruction, we get the picture of how Godly moms insure their legacy of faith will continue. I challenge you to live in front of your children and grandchildren the faith you want them to live in, the principles you want them to live by, and the Savior you want them to live for. By the way the biblical principle Mama Speights used is found in Ephesians 4:32. Peace and Grace Pastor Bruce
